MASSENA -- Tony's Canvas and Leather will celebrate its new location today from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with a grand opening event at 355 S. Main St.
Anthony O'Geen, who operates the business, said an up-tick in demand forced him to expand operations. "We needed more room and I wanted more visibility," he said. "After I moved in I found out that this is the most traveled corner off Route 37 in St. Lawrence County."
He said a boost in sales has grown from the internet. His bags, he says, tend to last longer than some of the foreign goods that are massed produced.
“I Think people really want a higher quality product,” he said.
O’Geen said he has much more room at the new place, with a cellar where he plans to do his leather and fabric cutting, and a main floor where he will do assembly and have his showroom.
“I was in the back of my garage, but with the increased demand from hockey teams across the country and across the world actually, I just needed more room,” he said.
O’Geen says the expansion will allow him to higher a new person and expand services. He said he hopes to add a seamstress who can perform alterations to suits and dresses and possibly sell used hockey apparel.
“Right now I have one employee. I am looking to add another,” he said.
He said the celebration will feature refreshments and raffles.
Tony's Canvas and Leather was formerly located at 50 Grove St., Massena.
