Mr. Royal A. Wells, Sr, 64, of 1116A County Route 49, passed away Tuesday evening, October 16, 2012 at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, where he was admitted earlier in the day.
Royal was born February 28, 1948, in Potsdam, the son of the late Edwin, Sr. and Dorothy Jock Wells. He was a graduate of Potsdam High School and married Roella Dennis.
Royal first worked as a farmer on the Theobald Farm in Potsdam before becoming at truck driver with Groebler’s Trucking and Ed McGraw’s Trucking. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, listening to country music and watching television, especially westerns.
He is survived by his companion of 17 years, Shirley Ott; four children, Royal A. Jr. and Lorie Wells, of Hopkinton, John Sr. and Tammy Wells of St. Regis Falls, Benjamin and Charinee Wells of Hopkinton and Billie Joel Wells and her companion, Curtis Lamb of Brasher Falls; his loving grandchildren, Nathan, James, Nicole, John Jr., Lyn, Kaitlyn, Kylie, Kendra, Michael, Curtis, and Haiden; his brother, Vincent and Luella Wells of Colton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Bray; and four brothers, Edwin Jr., Edsin, Gerald, and Gordon Wells.
Friends may call Saturday 9-11:00 a.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 noon at Sandhill Cemetery, Dickinson with Rev. Lee Sweeney, officiating.
