Canton, NY – Finishing in 10th place out of 112 runners, senior Patrick Carroll (Queensbury, NY) paced the Clarkson University Cross Country team’s effort Saturday afternoon at the Hoffman Invitational held on the campus of St. Lawrence University.
The Golden Knights’ men finished fifth among nine teams with 126 points, trailing Cortland (26), St. Lawrence (49), Ottawa Lions (90), St. Lawrence Alumni (120), but leading the University of Ottawa (163), SUNY Canton (205), Paul Smith’s (216), and Potsdam State (262). Clarkson women took fifth among seven teams with 129 points, trailing St. Lawrence (28), Cortland (61), the University of Ottawa (84), and the Ottawa Lions (90), but ahead of Canton (174) and Potsdam (196).
Carroll’s time of 26:47.13 over 8,000-meters placed him in the top 10 while Dan Fritz (Cicero, NY) finished as the 29th runner with a time of 27:45.46. Austin Holbrook (Corning, NY) came in 43rd, Adam Merkwan (Meredith, NH) was 45th, and John Bell (Marcellus, NY) finished in 47th to round out Clarkson’s scoring, with all three crossing the line within 21 seconds of one another.
On the women’s side, Sarah Governale (Wading River, NY) was the leading runner for the Golden Knights, coming in 16th out of 91 runners in the 6,000-meter race in 24:11.40. Senior Rachel Bachman (Queensbury, NY) finished just two spots behind Governale in 24:25.70 as the second runner for the Knights, while Chelsea Farinacci (Huntington, NY), Catherine Zarnofsky (Glenville, NY), and Ashley Forshey (Scotia, NY) placed 47th, 50th, and 55th, respectively.
