To the Editor:
As the U.S. citizens and residents of New York State we must obey all laws of the land. On roadways, alone, registration, inspection insurance, licenses, seatbelts, working lifhts of all kinds are required.
If any of these items are lacking the consequence is a fine.
New York Sate residents must abide by all laws regardless of our spiritual or religious beliefs. The Amish as a religious cult are exempt from the laws listed above. My question is: Are Amish exempt from animal cruelty laws also?
On July 17 I was traveling to Ogdensburg between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. They were trotting their pitiful little horses in 96-degree heat.
I know Amish do use other means of transportation such as buses, taxis, trains and neighbors. In extreme weather conditions why not do so.
