Graveside services for 91-year old Mr. Howard Thomas Blair, Sr. will be held Friday, August 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam with Pastor Lee Sweeney officiating. Mr. Blair died July 31, 2010 at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville, where he had been a resident for a short time. He resided in Manlius, and formerly of Potsdam.
Survivors include two sons, Howard T. Blair, Jr. of Manlius, and Gregory M. Blair of Winthrop; three granddaughters, Karen Waite of Plattsburgh, Patty Rouselle of Hopkinton, and Michelle Delosh of Winthrop; and four grandsons, Michael Blair of Palm Harbor, FL, Howard T. Blair, III, of Potsdam, Jeffrey Blair of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Jason Blair of Winthrop; and seven great grandchildren.
He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Frank and Leon Blair; and two sisters, Eva Tenny and PearlCheyne.
Howard served in the United States Army during WW II in the Asiatic Theater and rose to the rank of Sergeant, receiving several decorations for his service.
Mr. Blair was born Chateaugay, New York on December 11, 1918 the son of Thomas and Delia (Beyette) Blair. He married Barbara Crawford in Burke, New York on November 2, 1941. Mrs. Blair died March 3, 1993.
Howard was employed for many years as a truck driver for Baker Commodities Co., and later for PACES Food Service at SUNY Potsdam College prior to his retirement.
