Isaac Snell of Isaac Jude Pottery teaches beginning Wheel Thrown Pottery classes for community members this spring at SLC Arts. Anyone age 14 and up with fewer than 20 hours of pottery experience can register.
The intro-level classes take students through all of the steps of throwing on a wheel, including wedging and centering clay, throwing, trimming and attaching handles. The teacher glazes and fires several pieces of pottery per student, which are ready to pick up a few weeks after classes finish.
The June sessions meet Wednesdays on June 18, 25 and July 2 from 6 to 9 pm. Materials are included with class fees, financial assistance is available through a grant from the Sweetgrass Foundation. Additional pottery classes are scheduled throughout the summer. All classes meet at Downtown Snell Hall, 41 Elm St, room 229. Space is limited, and on a first-come, first-serve basis.
