Mass of Christian Burial for William L. Sanderson, 72, of Hermon, will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Church in Canton with Rev. Douglas J. Lucia, celebrating. Burial will be in the Hermon Cemetery. William died on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Friends may call at the O’Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Highway 11 on Monday; from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to Hermon Volunteer Fire and Rescue or the St. Mary’s Church in Canton.
Surviving William are his wife of 51 years, Brenda of Hermon; three sons, Robert W. of Hermon, James L. and wife Shelly of Canton and Steven C. and wife Kristen of Hermon; five grandchildren, Brigette, Rachel, Abbigale, Emma and Brayden Sanderson.
A son, Michael B. predeceased him in 1999.
William was born, September 7, 1940 in Gouverneur, the son of the late William C. and Julia E. Sanderson. He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1959. William served in the US Navy from 1959-1963, aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga. On May 13, 1961, he married Brenda C. Raven. William worked for Firestone Retread in Syracuse from ’63-’64; National Lead from ’64-’66 and later for Corning Incorporated, Canton, retiring after 30+ years of service.
William served as a trustee for the Hermon Library and was a communicant of St. Henry’s Church, DeKalb where he served on the parish council and later a communicant of St. Mary’s Church of Canton.
William enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and attending all of their events.
