William J. Lawson, 87, of Tucson, Ariz., and formerly of Potsdam, passed away on October 5, 2010, after a hard struggle with dementia.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at Tucson Estates Chapel with Rev. Lester McSperry officiating.
He is survived by his wife, Janice, of 45 years; three sons, Craig W. of Wilcox, Ariz., Brian J. of South Belhehem, N.Y., and Grant M. of Austin, Texas; also stepchildren, Thomas P. Gratten of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Priscilla Brown, Potsdam, Connie Ferguson, Potsdam; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Lisa Niles.
He was born Dec. 28, 1922 in Potsdam, the son of William and Lois Morgan Lawson.
He had a busy life while living in Potsdam. He was the mayor for two years. Some 40 years ago, he was on the National Ski Patrol in Northern New York.
While in Tucson, he was commander of the Tucson Mountain Legion Post 102.
