MASSENA -- William A. Babcock, 72, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the St. Regis Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. There will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Bill was born on September 20, 1946 in Potsdam, the son of William H. and Clarissa G. (Bice) Babcock. He graduated from St. Lawrence Central in 1965 and joined the US Navy where he was a radioman. While he was stationed in Puerto Rico on the USS Wasp, he received the National Defense Service Medal. After being honorably discharged he married Deborah Deon of September 29, 1973 at St. Lawrence Church in North Lawrence.

William started working at ALCOA in 1971 in the Pot Rooms and later worked as a General Mechanic, retiring after 34 years in 2005. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing and hunting. Bill also liked to knit and crochet making intricate hats or scarfs for his family. He also liked to watch westerns on TV, especially Gunsmoke.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Deborah of 45 years; a daughter, Heather Doe of Massena; two grandsons, Hayden and Nathaniel Doe; a sister, Louise and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Eileen in infancy and a brother William Henry Babcock.

Memorial contributions may be made in William’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
