GOUVERNEUR -- Wilbrod O. “Bud” Paige, 93, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Riverledge Health Care in Ogdensburg.

Bud was born in Ogdensburg on September 6, 1924, the son of J. Edward and Eva Bayard Paige.

He attended St. Peter's School in Ogdensburg and Massena High School.

Bud served in the United States Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant.

Bud married Marie Anne Desgagne on June 9, 1945, at Sacred Heart Church in Massena with Fr. Michael Jarecki officiating.

Following his discharge from the service, Bud owned and operated Paige's Variety Store on East Orvis Street in Massena and later worked for Baker's Furniture in Massena.

He then worked as a salesman and was part owner with his wife, Anne, of Gouverneur/Watertown Mattress which later became the Furniture Showcase in Gouverneur. His association with the store began in 1965, and the couple retired in 1987.

Bud was a "rabid" golfer, enjoyed bowling, spent time managing and promoting boxing and auto racing events, was a member of St. James Church, and was the last WW II veteran of the Madrid American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Anne; his children, Bruce Paige of Cape Vincent, Susan and Carmen Scoppa of Fairport, Mark Paige of Tappahannock, VA, Denise and George Way of Vero Beach, FL, and Brian and Kathy Paige of Madrid; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Marie St. Thomas; two brothers, Leo and Victor Paige; three half brothers, Edgar, John, and Ernest Paige; a half sister, Eva Lalonde; and a grandson, Justin Way.

Calling hours are on Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, November 9 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Gouverneur with Rev. Richard B. Dunn, pastor of St. Mary's of the Lake, Skaneateles, officiating and burial with military honors will be in New St. James Cemetery, Gouverneur.
