Gouverneur - Walter A. "Red" McCrea, 89, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Highland Nursing Home, Massena.

Walter was born September 29, 1924 in Rensselaer Falls, the son of Alton and Carrie Pike McCrea.

Walt attended schools in Richville and DeKalb before serving in the United States Army and Army Reserves for 9 years.

He married Marjorie Trowbridge on May 17, 1949 in Richville.

Marjorie passed away March 29, 2009.

Walt drove tractor trailer for nearly 20 years, worked at Matthews & Richardson Garage in Gouverneur, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

He was a former member of the Odd Fellows and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling.

Walt is survived by his son Edgar and Deborah McCrea of Purlear, NC; his daughter Edna and Robert Morehouse of Florida; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Terry "Archie" McCrea of Palm Bay, FL; two sisters, Addie Cooper of Antwerp, Betty Gutierrez of Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, parents, a brother Efton McCrea and a sister Martha Smith.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 30th at 11:00 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Robert Morehouse officiating and burial in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.

Calling hours are Tuesday from 6 - 8 p.m.
