Joseph F. Logan, 69, formerly of Onondaga Nation. Mr. Joseph F. Logan, “Skyohweho”, 69, a native of Onondaga Nation, passed away on Saturday evening, October 31, 2009, at the home of Michael Jock in Akwesasne.

He was born on June 28, 1940 on the Onondaga Nation, where he was raised, the son of Irving Sr. and Elsie Isaccs Logan. He attended schools on the Onondaga Nation.

Indian Joe, as he was known to many by, was an ironworker based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until his retirement. After his retirement, he had a cleaning business. At one time he worked as a custodian for the Lafayette and Onondaga Nation Schools. Joe lived in Georgia for the past 12 years. He was Wolf Clan and belonged to the Onondaga Indian Nation. He was formerly a volunteer fireman for the Onondaga Nation Fire Department, where he had previously served as a chief. Joe enjoyed golfing, scuba diving, traveling, and working as a cultural consultant. He was a tinkerer of small engines and other “collectibles”.

He is survived by a sister, Katherine Homer of Onondaga Nation; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends he met throughout his journeys.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Sequin Hill; and three brothers, Irving Jr. and Arnold Logan and Oliver Hill.

Services will be held on the Oneida Nation, where he will buried in the Oneida Nation Burial Grounds.

Local arrangements were provided by the Donaldson Funeral Home , Massena. Arrangements are with the Fiore Funeral Home, Oneida.
