Funeral services for Thelma Leona Langley Carmody of 232 Washington St., Ogdensburg will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Ogdensburgh Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Frary Funeral Home. Mrs. Carmody passed away on June 21, 2013 at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her loving family.
Leona is survived by her daughter, Trudy Tesluk and husband, Michael, of Ogdensburg; her son, Theodore and his wife, Linda, of Schenectady, NY; her brother, Edward and his wife, George, of Ogdensburg; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis, in 1991; a son, Thomas in 2008; and a son, Timothy, who died in action in Vietnam in 1968; three sisters, Mildred, Francis, and Gloria; and three brothers, William, Thomas and Lawrence.
Leona was born July 29, 1921 in Windsor, Ontario, the daughter of Emery and Eva Langley. As a young girl, they relocated to Morristown, NY and later to Ogdensburg. She married Dennis Frederick Carmody April 19, 1941 in Anniston, Alabama. Her best friend, Jean Duprey, was her Maid of Honor. Dennis and Leona eventually settled in Ogdensburg after he was discharged from the armed forces.
Mrs. Carmody was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was an American Gold Star Mother. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time with her family. She was a resident at the Centennial Tower for the past twenty-five years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Cathedral.
