Sylvia C. Wright, 81, of Pray Road, died unexpectedly on Monday, October 1, 2012, at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton with the funeral to follow at 3:15 p.m. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
She was born August 20, 1930 in Louisville, a daughter of the late Maurice and Emily (Burkum) Sharlow. On Feb. 22, 1948 she married Carlton Wright in Potsdam with Rev. Paul Roy as celebrant.
Sylvia worked in area restaurants, later for Canton-Potsdam Hospital in the house-cleaning dept, for John Duryea Ins. and eventually she worked at the Aiello Cheese Plant, Heuvelton for 8 years.
She enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her large family. Sylvia was the “Drill Sergeant” of the family. She also enjoyed her flower garden, as well as, sitting and holding hands with her husband.
She is survived by her husband, Carlton; four sons, Larry and wife Nancy, Carl and wife Ruth, Donald and wife Lisa and Gene and wife Dolly; six daughters, Linda (David) Durgan of Canton, Ruth (Vernon) Trudell, Rita Wright (Joe Homes) and Arlene Wright (Ricky Snyder) all of Lisbon, Sherry (Steve) Richards of Canton and Marsha (David) Gooshaw of Theresa; two sisters, Ruth Toomey and Bertha Latreilla; 27 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 10 great great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by three children, Candy, Randy and Lee; and five brothers, Leo, Donald, Gene, Alvin and Bernard; and three sisters, Irene, Dorothy and Rita.
