OGDENSBURG -- Funeral services for Sylvia “Ann” McCarthy, age 78, will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Frary Funeral Home with Rev. Laurena Wickham Will officiating. Burial will be in Ogdensburgh Cemetery in the Spring. Calling hours will be held from 2 - 5 PM on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. Mrs. McCarthy passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018, at Riverledge Nursing Home.
Ann is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Osier and her husband, George, of Ogdensburg and Shelly Elliott and her husband, Robert, of Hillsborough, NJ; four grandchildren, Alexander Osier, Samuel Elliott, Benjamin Elliott and Sophie Elliott; sister-in-law, Betty Martin, of Westmoreland; step-sisters, Amy Erwin and Beverly Derosiers, both of Ogdensburg, and Joan Riley of New Jersey; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, Richard McCarthy; her parents, Alton and Iva Martin; her brothers and sisters, Donald, Una, Howard, Eleanor, Norman, and Virginia; step-sister, Rita Hess; step-brother, George Burns; and her step-father, William Burns.
Ann was born on April 22, 1939, in Ogdensburg, the daughter of Alton and Iva Lockwood Martin. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1958.
Ann married Richard D. McCarthy on September 23, 1961, at the First Presbyterian Church, Ogdensburg, NY, with Rev. Bruce Tucker officiating. He predeceased her on March 24, 2004.
Anne first went to work for Hepburn Hospital as a nurse’s aide and was later promoted to Ward Clerk. After raising her children, she went back work as a cafeteria aide at Ogdensburg Free Academy and also volunteered at Hepburn Hospital in the physical therapy department.
Ann enjoyed bingo, which she played five days a week, as well as bowling. She bowled in several leagues including the Women’s Bowling League, Early Bird Women’s League, and the Reindeer League also known as the Mr. & Mrs. League which she helped start along with the help of her husband at the Ogdensburg Bowl.
She was an avid parishioner of the First Presbyterian Church of Ogdensburg and was once a member of the Eastern Stars.
