Sarah McBroom, age 83, of Carthage, formerly of Star Lake, passed away on February 2, 2013 at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.
Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, 188 Main St., Edwards, on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. followed by her service at 1:00 p.m. with Lay Minister Roger Benjamin officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Fine. There will be a reception held at the Oswegatchie Baptist Church following her burial. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.
Sarah was born on April 14, 1929 in Degrasse to the late George Henry T. and Elsie M. (Webb) Austin of Degrasse. Sarah attended school in Degrasse and married Glenn Daniel McBroom on January 27, 1947. Mr. McBroom passed away on March 29, 1981.
Sarah enjoyed visits and phone calls from family and friends, doing search-a-word puzzles, playing bingo and WII bowling. She also loved to receive pictures and flowers from her family.
Sarah is survived by seven children, Daniel McBroom and his companion, Barbara Rickett of Haines City, FL, Paul and his wife Gail McBroom of Lowville, Alvin and his wife, Joanie McBroom of Pyrites, Melinda and her husband Harry Hubbard of Philadelphia, LeRoy and his wife Trudy McBroom of Oswegatchie, Benjamin and his wife Robin McBroom of Watertown and Henry McBroom of Davenport, FL.
Sarah is also survived by siblings, Nora Finley of Star Lake, Aloysious “Pee Wee” Austin of PA and Eva Austin of Gouverneur; and 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Glenn McBroom; her parents, George and Elsie Austin; siblings, Alice Austin, Elsie Fifield, Alvin “Tarz” Austin, Arthur “Art” Austin, George Austin, Jr., Andrew Austin, Edwin Austin, and Charles Austin; a son, Alfred Glenn McBroom; and a great-granddaughter, Caitlin Marie Whitney.
