Ruth E. Trombley, 95, of Brushton passed away Friday evening at the Alice Hyde Medical Center.
Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.
Ruth was born May 28, 1916 in North Lawrence, the daughter of the late William & Victoria (Badore) Arquiett. She attended school locally in North Lawrence. She and the late Charles Supernault were married September 29, 1939 in North Lawrence; he passed away April 14, 1990
Ruth married the late Henry Dow on September 28, 1991. Although their marriage was short-lived, they thoroughly enjoyed their retirement. Henry died on November 9, 1993.
In 1995 she wed Malcolm Trombley. They traveled extensively and enjoyed casino gambling. Ruth often remarked about the new friends they met. As she became sicklier, Malcolm care for her until he passed away just over two months ago.
For over 40 years, she owned and operated the Gale Road Tavern and, with her husband Charles, a small dairy farm.
Ruth leaves behind a son, Philip (Kim Zimmerman) Supernault of Churchville; a daughter, Sue Ellen Supernault (William) Walker of Larkspur, Colorado; 12 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and two children who passed on during infancy; two sons, William and Terry; and one great grandson, Tommy. Coming from a very large family, she was the last of her siblings to pass away.
Her business demanded that Ruth be a worker but when Tuesdays rolled around, she would hang the “Closed” sign up, pack a picnic basket and take the family to a local waterfront for an afternoon of relaxation. She sold the tavern in her early 60’s and lived a full retirement, traveling and enjoying her favorite pastime-cards. At the casino she never turned down a good card game and was particularly fond of Poker, especially Texas Hold-Em.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 A.M. Wednesday morning at St. Mary’s Church in Brushton, with the Rev. Christopher Looby, celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Ruth’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a monetary donation be made to Hospice of the North Country.
