Roy Murray Akins, of Blue Ridge, Va., formerly from Ogdensburg, born to Charles and Vivian on July 19, 1948, passed away peacefully October 25, 2010.
He retired from the Roanoke Water Authority on April 1, 2009.
He was a kind, peaceful, quiet man, a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved gardening, collecting and playing music. Taking fishing, camping and beautiful vacation trips with his lifelong sweetheart of 41 remarkable years was his favorite part of life. He will be dearly missed by that sweetheart wife, Christie Jane Akins and their three children that they raised with love and compassion.
Surviving family include mother, Vivian Akins; sons, Roy Christopher Akins and wife Heather, Cory Joseph Akins and wife Davida; daughter, Angela Lee Akins; many adoring grandchildren, Katherine, Erin, Bethany, Josh, Halei, Hunter and Haiden (Buddy) Conner; brothers, Danny (Peggy) and Billy (Gloria) Akins and sisters, Kathy (Pete) and Linda. Special mentions to sisters-in-law, Debby and Robin, whom he took in as daughters; Sharon and Judy; brother-in-law Joe (deceased); Marilyn and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the Lotz Vinton Chapel. The family received friends following the service.
