Ronald Mackinnon, Potsdam

Born in Northern Ireland, beloved husband of Mary Mackinnon, caring father of Kevin and Heather, grandfather of Chelsea, Sean, Sarah, Ian and Michael, father-in-law to Sharon and David, Ronald Mackinnon died peacefully at his home in Potsdam, on September 18, 2012.

Ron graduated from Queens University, Belfast, Northern Ireland with a degree in Chemical Science. He immigrated to Canada to work for Dupont Chemicals in Brockville, Ontario. Ron went on to have a long distinguished career with Pfizer International. He represented the company in Africa, the Middle East and in Europe.

Ron shared his life’s journey with Mary, his soul mate, wife and friend of 53 years. With their children, they traveled the world and experienced its’ wonders, making a world wide web of friendships.

Following his retirement from Pfizer, the family lived in Vermont where Ron worked first with the Vermont State Government as Commissioner for Economic Development, and then for A. N. Derringer Co.

Ron and Mary moved from Vermont to Potsdam, in 2003.

Ron was predeceased by his brothers Fred, Jock, and Marshall.

He is survived by his sister, Greta; sisters-in-law Betty, Margie and Anna; and numerous nephews and nieces, all whom reside in the United Kingdom.

A private family service has been held at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam. If friends so desire in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative care of the St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US Route 11, Potsdam, NY 13676.
