Robert L. Johnston, 69, DeKalb Junction

DEKALB JUNCTION -- Graveside services with military honors for Robert L. Johnston, age 69, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton with Pastor Ron Stiles officiating.

Mr. Johnston passed away at his home unexpectedly on Sunday, April 16, 2017.

Surviving is a son, Jeremy (Cassie) Johnston of Parishville; a sister, Bonnie (Darrell) Cutler of Rensselaer Falls; a grandson, Ian Johnston; a nephew, Kevin (Nadia) Cutler of Potsdam; a niece, Tammy Cutler & her companion, Scott Rivers of Ogdensburg; great nieces, Katrina Cutler & Kiana Saunders; great-nephew, Evan Cutler; and great-great niece, Aleyiah & great-great nephew, Kai; and four step children and several step-grandchildren.

Robert was born on October 26, 1947, in Ogdensburg, a son of the late Earnest & Betty (Dugon) Johnston.

He attended Rensselaer Falls and Canton High School for his education, and entered the US Army from 1967 – 1969 where he earned the National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Metal with two bronze stars and the Vietnam Campaign Metal.

Two prior marriages ended, and he later married Candice M. (Morrow) St. Pier on Aug 7, 2009, in Black Lake. She predeceased him on June 4, 2014.

During his career he was employed at the Heuvelton Whey Company from 1966-1969 as a laborer & machine operator; Suprema Cheese Company from 1996 to 2000 as a laborer; Cedars Nursing Home in the maintenance department and Ashley’s Home Center until his retirement.

Robert was a member of the “Buck Skins” band as a drummer for 30 years; a longtime member of the Rensselaer Falls Fire Department, Dekalb Jct. Fire Department, AmVets Post 11, AmVets Posts 19 and the Ogdensburg VFW Post 2936.

Robert enjoyed watching NASCAR, drumming in the band, riding motor cycles, hunting, and fishing.
