Funeral services for Robert L. Elliott, 94, of Malone and formerly of Ogdensburg were held Saturday, August 28, 2010 at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home, 528 Franklin St., Ogdensburg with Sister Ann Marie Ryan, officiating. Burial was in Ogdensburgh Cemetery. Mr. Elliott died at the Alice Hyde Nursing Home, Malone on Wed., Aug. 25, 2010. He had been a resident there since April 10, 2007.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Linda Ryan, Chateaugay; a grandson, Michael Ryan and his wife, Barbara of Albany; a granddaughter, Mrs. Scott (Kathleen) Barber of Massapequa Park, L.I., NY; three great-grandsons, Matthew, Eric, and Jake Barber; four sisters, Isla Ramsey, Isabella Miller, and Elizabeth Hazelton, all of Ogdensburg, and Wanda Elliott of Chase Mills and a brother, Rodger Elliott of Baldwinsville.
Predeceasing him were his wife, Sadie; a son-in-law, Richard G. Ryan; three brothers, Dean, Douglas, and Rozell, Jr. Elliott and four sisters, Rose Refici, Shirley Hazelton, Marion Simpson, and Arlene Exelby Matthews.
He was born on Sept 23, 1915, the son of Rozell and Cecil Apple Elliott. He attended Hammond schools. He married Sadie Young Barley in Mineral Wells, TX on June 5, 1941 while serving in the US Army. She predeceased him on May 28, 1987. He served during WWII at Camp Walters, TX from March 1941 until his honorable discharge in July 1943. Following their return to Ogdensburg the couple purchased property on Route 68 outside the Ogdensburg city limits. They established Elliott’s Restaurant in 1945 and operated the popular business until their retirement in 1987.
Mr. Elliott enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially visiting his camp at Star Lake, NY. He was a member of the Ogdensburg Acacian Masonic Lodge, and the former American Legion, Ogdensburg.
