Robert E. Closs, age 59, of Hailesboro, passed away on January 31, 2012 at the Claxton-Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg.

Calling hours will be at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur on Friday, February 3, 2012 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Orville Eacker officiating. Burial will follow in the Hailesboro Cemetery.

Donations given in memory of Robert may go to the Fullerville Community Church, C/o Richard Moore, 28 River Rd., Gouverneur NY 13642.

Robert was born on July 30, 1952 in Gouverneur to the late Lester and Iva (Smith) Moore. He graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1971 and worked for the Kinney Drugs warehouse as a custodian for over 20 years, retiring in 2010 due to ill health.

Robert was a hard worker who liked to laugh and have a good time. He loved to dance and used to go camping and fishing when he was able to do so. He was an active member of the Fullerville Community Church where he served as a Trustee and the Treasurer. He was also a member of the Edwards Senior Citizens Club and the Statewide Council of Senior Citizens.

He is survived by two sisters, Mavis (James) Pyle of Nashua, NH and Mildred Reynolds of Oswego; three brothers, Robert Kelly and Stephen Kelly of Gouverneur, and Charles Kelly and his longtime companion, Marie Nicotra of Wampsville; and by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Closs was predeceased by his parents; his “other” mother, Madeline Closs; and two brothers, Edward and Carl Closs.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to French Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
