Robert A. Cummings, 72, of Morristown, died, April 5, 2013, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, Allen-Nichols Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, entrusted with arrangements. Calling hours will be at the St. John’s Evangelist Church, Morristown Tuesday, April 9, 9 – 11 a.m. the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., Father Jay Seymour officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Eel Weir.
Robert is survived his wife, Darlene; daughter Laurie Ann Cummings, Ogdensburg; step-daughter, April E. LeDuc, Brier Hill; a sister, Diane and husband Bill Fraser, Ogdensburg; a brother, Thomas and his wife Pam Cummings, Colorado; grandchildren Rhianna Chapin and Madison Stratten; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Scott A. Cummings.
Robert was born on June 11, 1940 in Ogdensburg, the son of Harry and Mary Ruth Coppins Cummings. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1958 and attended ATC. He married Darlene Hierholzer, on December 11, 1999 at the Presbyterian Stone Church by the Reverend Thomas Patterson, a previous marriage to Sharon Mills ended in divorce. Robert was a Lieutenant in the Ogdensburg City Police Force until his retirement in May 1984, his law enforcement career extend over 30 years.
He was a parishioner and a commissioned lay minister at St. John’s Evangelist Church, and a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed model railroading, motorcycling, photographing nature, fishing, and he liked visiting with people. He had a special devotion to Chaplet of Divine Mercy. He was a godparent to Adon Hunter. He loved his grandchildren and his pets, Gracie, Sugar Bear and Tucker.
