Funeral Services for Rita M. Graveline, age 98, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will be at Notre Dame Cemetery in the spring. Mrs. Graveline passed away Thursday afternoon, January 4, at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home. Arrangements are being handled by Frary Funeral Home.
Mrs. Graveline is survived by two daughters, Janice Silver of Dover Plains and Sally Pelletier and her husband Paul of Stittsville, Ontario; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Graveline; and thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Rita was predeceased by a son, William in 2008; a son-in-law, James Silver; two sisters, Pauline Fortin and Catherine Denny; and a grandson.
Rita Graveline was born in Ogdensburg, on August 28, 1914 the daughter of William and Adeline Downey Lalonde. She graduated Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1932. Rita then went to typist school after high school. She first went to work for as a typesetter for the Ogdensburg Journal. After her departure from the Journal she then went on to work at Simpson’s pharmacy and Adam & Pagano’s as a pharmacist assistant. She retired from Fay’s Drugs in Ogdensburg. Rita married her husband Clarence Graveline on May 11, 1935 at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg. He predeceased her in 1991.
Rita enjoyed knitting, cooking, bingo, bowling and crocheting. She was well known for her lemon pies.
