Richard “Dick” J. Sullivan, age 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.

His graveside service will be in the Gulf Cemetery, Fowler on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. officiated by his brother, Edward and his step-son-in-law, Roger Benjamin. Funeral arrangements are being handled by French Funeral Home, Gouverneur.

Dick was born on August 18, 1930 in Gouverneur to the late Ezra and Caroline (Witmore) Sullivan. He attended school in Edwards and enjoyed hunting and riding motorcycle. He also enjoyed riding four-wheelers through the woods and keeping his lawn up and looking good.

Dick worked construction and worked for the town of Fowler for several years. He then drove school bus while operating the family farm. After farming, he ran Sullivan’s Saw Mill for 20 years until retiring in 1998.

He married Evelyn Streeter on September 24, 1994 at her daughter, Susan’s home. Evelyn passed away on March 7, 2009. A marriage to Beatrice Bressett ended in divorce.

Dick is survived by his brothers, Robert Sullivan of Foley, AL and Edward and his wife, Karen Sullivan of Golden Valley AZ; a sister, Hannah Albertson of Rochester; his wife Evelyn’s children, spouses, and families; and by many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Margaret LaRock; his wife, Evelyn; and his longtime companion, Aletha Barker.
