Mr. Peter O. Charleson, age 82 of Potsdam, passed away at his residence on August 24, 2010 while under the care of his family and the Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.

Calling hours held on Friday August 27, 2010 at the Garner Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Garner Funeral Home with Rev. Janet LaCroix officiating. Burial will follow the service at the West Stockholm Cemetery.

Peter is survived by three daughters, Margaret (William) Bray of Walworth, Nancy (Kevin) Goodison of Shortsville, and Ranny Gale and her companion Fran Morrow of Potsdam; brothers Raymond (Betty) Charleson of Parishville, Ronald (Lorie) Charleson of Hopkinton, Francis (Donna) of Missouri, Ernest Charleson of Chamung, Donald (Katherine) of Potsdam and Lyle (Joanne) Charleson of Pierrepont; a sister, Betty (Hollis) Edwards of Potsdam; brother in law Lloyd Shattuck of Potsdam; sister in law Joyce LaFluer of Potsdam; grandsons Peter Davis and William Bray Jr.; great grandchildren Alyssa Bray and Kyle Bray; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Veleta Charleson; a brother, Robert Charleson; and his sister, Emily Shattuck.

Peter O. Charleson was born on February 23, 1928 in Potsdam to Raymond Charleson and Maude E. Couglar. He attended rural schools. He married Veleta Mae Bunstone on July 7, 1972 at the Hannawa Falls Methodist Church.

Peter owned and operated his own dairy farm for over 60 years. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, going to the casino, visiting with people and having his family around. He also was an avid Clarkson Hockey fan.
