Patricia Ann Conger Murphy "Sarge" Slaughter, 73, a Parishville native, and most recently of Utah, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 27, 2012 after battling Pancreatic Cancer.

She was born in Parishville, to Glenn Gordon Conger and Florence Opal Grant Conger on June 3, 1939. She was married to Michael Joseph Murphy in Massena on November 24, 1956. They were later divorced. She married William Roscoe Slaughter on September 19, 1981 and was sealed to him in the Seattle, Washington Temple on June 23, 1984.

When she was a single mother she worked as a waitress, cleaned houses, and was a nanny/house keeper, catering hostess, bookstore clerk, bookkeeper, substitute teacher and greeting card merchandiser and continued her education by reading and studying endlessly. She mastered anything she tried and improved everything she touched. Her time was spent in the service of others. She was a caretaker not only to her children, but also for aging family members all her life.

Her love for others, especially for the youth enabled her to become a Juvenile Court Justice to help council troubled youth and a staunch supporter and lifelong mentor in the Boy Scouts of America.

On January 18, 2007 she received the Silver Beaver award and on February 10, 2012 she received the Annual Influential Woman in Scouting Award celebrating 45 years in scouting. She loved her Eagle scouts and they loved her.

Throughout her life she served several missions for the LDS church: LDS Employment Specialist as a trainer to help people with disabilities receive employment, St. George Cannery and the St. George Temple.

She spent her spare time volunteering for organizations that she loved-Spokane Symphony, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, and reading with children and an educational aide. The family would like to share a special thank you to Utah Hospice Specialists, namely: Mendi, Vanessa, Tammy, Chrissy, Heidi, Heather, Larry, Max and Patty for their loving, kind, and tender care of our mom in her last days. Their gentle manner and compassion brought us much comfort.

She was preceeded in death by Michael Joseph Murphy in June of 1985 and William Roscoe Slaughter on July 3, 2010.

She is survived by Christa Madora Murphy Barnes (Lawrence) Lewiston, New York, Glenna Mashell Murphy Diamond (Brad) Springville, Utah, Deidre' Malane Murphy Accordino (Paul) Diamond Valley Utah, Diane Peggy Slaughter Hammeren (Roger) Washington, Utah, 20 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 in Southville Cemetary, Stockholm Center. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Boy Scouts of America, Utah National Parks Council in the name of "Sarge".
