AUBURNDALE, FL - Orra Glennford Mitchell passed away peacefully early Saturday morning on January 13, 2018, at the Good Shepherd Hospice in Lakeland, Florida.
Orra was born on November 2, 1927, in Moira, New York, son of William C. and Mary Thornton Mitchell.
Surviving are his companion of 15 years, Gladys ‘Peggy’ McNichol, two sisters, Mrs. Edith Baker of Potsdam, NY and Mrs. Evelyn Pratt of Avon Park, FL, one daughter, Denille Dillabough of Massena, NY(Husband Richard), 3 sons, William Mitchell (Wife Cora) of Auburndale, FL, Randy Mitchell (Wife Jackie) of Massena, NY and Scott Mitchell (Wife Janis) of Mechanic Falls, Maine.
Orra was predeceased by his first wife, Beverly Jeane Viau, mother, of Denille, William, Randy and Scott, as well as sister, Mrs. Marion Phelps from Hannawa Falls, NY and a brother, Mr. Robert Mitchell from Plattsburgh, NY.
Also surviving are 9 grandchildren: Shannon Dillabough, Darcy Dillabough, Mark Mitchell, Jenny Spencer, BillieJo McCarley, Heath McLean, Shannon Bryant, Allyne King & Brian Mitchell as well as 17 Great Grandchildren.
Orra was employed by General Motors as a supervisor from 1959 until he retired in 1985.
Mr. Mitchell enjoyed playing golf, hunting and spending time at his camp in the Adirondack’s.
He spent his retirement years between Massena, NY and in Florida where he played golf as often as he was able, even playing 18 holes with his son and some of his grandchildren the day after Christmas 2017.
There will be a celebration of life for Orra on Sunday, January 21, at 2 p.m. at the Hamptons Golf Club house in Auburndale, Florida.
There will be a memorial in the spring in Massena, NY at Pine Grove Cemetery.
