Mrs. Mina Armstrong, age 101 of Parishville, passed away on Thursday, June 03, 2010 at the United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton, where she had been a patient since May 27, 2008. At Mina’s request her funeral service and burial will be held privately. She will be buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Parishville. Arrangements are with the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam.
Mina is survived by two sons, Colin “Pete” Armstrong and Carmen (Cheryl) Armstrong both of Parishville; two daughters, Lola Thompson of Ottawa, ON and Sherry (Hubert) Brainard of Martinsville, VA; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Armstrong who died March 2, 1993; two sons, David in 1958 and Jerry in 1968; eight sisters and three brothers; and a son in law, Albert Thompson.
Mina Armstrong was born on April 19, 1909 in Lancaster, Ontario to Peter Lauber and Charlotte Carter. Her family came to the United States in 1923. She attended schools in Massena. On November 6, 1933 in Massena, she was married to Leo Armstrong. They owned and operated a farm in Parishville from 1934 until 1977. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
