Calling hours for Michael Estes, age 60, of Rensselaer Ave., Ogdensburg, will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Frary Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in Redwood Cemetery. Mr. Estes passed away at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center Emergency Room on December 23 after being stricken at his home.
Mr. Estes is survived by his wife, Peggy; his son, Michael, Jr. of Ogdensburg; his daughter, Michelle, of Ogdensburg; twin sisters, Polly McClellan and her husband, Daryl and Paula Money and her husband, Dwayne, all of Alexandria Bay; two brothers, John Estes of Ogdensburg and Francis of Pittsburgh, PA, and his fiancé, Karen Criss; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Pederson, of Ogdensburg; six grandchildren, who were the love of his life, Aspen and Creedence Jennings, Nolan Rapin, Saige, Silas and Tate Estes; and his beloved cocker spaniel, Aussie.
He was predeceased by a brother, Robert in 2002.
Mr. Estes was born on April 21, 1952 in Alexandria Bay, the son of Arthur and Frances Simpson Estes. He graduated from Alexandria Bay Central School in 1970. He graduated from Minot State University in North Dakota. He served in the U.S. Air Force for seven years during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Peggy Pederson on April 13, 1972 in North Dakota. Mr. Estes worked for Ogdensburg Correctional Facility in Ogdensburg in 1982 and retired in 2002 as a Sargeant at Riverview Correctional Facility.
He loved Christmas and decorating for the special event. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time on his boat on the St. Lawrence River. He was active in the Coast Guard Auxilary where he served as Flotilla Commander. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers.
