Marie M. Smith, 80, formerly of Parishville

Marie M. Smith of Potsdam and formerly of Parishville, passed away on October 15, 2010 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 80 years old.

Mrs. Smith was predeceased by her husband of 33 years Oswald F. (Ozzie) Smith who died Oct.5, 1981; a son, James P. Smith; a grandson, James A. Smith Jr.; a sister, Phyllis Swinyer; one brother, Harold Allen; and an infant great-granddaughter, Lily Butcher.

She is survived by five daughters, Yvonne Smith, Mrs. William (Becky) Ellis, Etta Smith, Mrs. Marty (Patricia) Morris, and Sarah Smith; three sons, Mr. Francis (and wife Sharon) Smith, Mr. Mark (and his wife Michelle) Smith, and Mr. Jeffrey (and Connie) Smith; and 25 grandchildren, Kimberley Smith, Brian Smith, Lisa Smith, Jason Capone, Aaron Capone, Christopher Capone, Tobias Smith, Ann Butcher, Michael Ellis, William Ellis, Donald Snyder, Tracy Smith, Marty Morris Jr., Brian Morris, Randy Emlin, Kenneth Emlin, Abigail Thomas, Emma Thomas, Ian Smith, Elizabeth Tuper, Crystal Smith, Nathan Barber, Bobbie Jo Barber, and Brad Barber.

Marie was born July 22, 1930 in Pyrites, daughter of Guy and Florence (Stevenson) Allen. Marie was a great supporter of Senior Citizens organizations and belonged to several area clubs. She was a Past President of the Parishville Hilltoppers and Norwood Jolly Agers Seniors Clubs. Marie was also a member of the St. Lawrence County Council and State Wide Seniors Action Groups. She received a number of awards for service above and beyond dedication and service. Organizing many senior and community trips Marie was a very giving person always thinking of others.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 29th, 2010 beginning at 1:00 p.m. extending throughout the afternoon at the Parishville Vol. Fire Dept. Hall. Honoring Marie’s request in lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to area Senior Citizens Clubs.

Arrangements are with the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.
