Marie “Loretta” Simpson, 75, died in Star Lake on June 11, 2010 in the loving presence and care of her family and the dedicated staff of the Clifton-Fine Nursing Home.

She was born on July 21, 1934 in Piercefield, the daughter of Onesiphore and Melanie (Perth) LaRocque. She graduated from Clifton-Fine Central School in 1953 and went on to study child care at Our Lady of Victory Infant Home in Lackawanna.

Loretta married John H. Simpson on December 23, 1960 in Wanakena with Reverend Davis officiating. After their marriage, they built their home in Star Lake where they resided together until Mr. Simpson died on January 4, 2005. Loretta relocated to the Clifton-Fine Nursing Home in March of 2009.

Loretta is survived by a daughter and her husband, Laura and Clifton Duval of Colton; a son and his wife, Mark and Julie Simpson of Star Lake; two grandchildren, Shane Simpson and Jenna Simpson; a mother-in-law, Sarah Simpson of Star Lake; a brother and his wife, Paul and Dona LaRocque of Star Lake; sisters-in-law Marolyn Hazelton of North Tonawanda and Eleanor LaRocque of Canandaigua as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A sister, Claire and her husband Raymond Planty and two brothers, Bernard and Dennis “Peanut” LaRocque died before her.

Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker as well as a nanny to several families in the area over the years. She has always loved the Adirondacks and having family dinners. In her younger years, she enjoyed doing crafts and going ski-doing and four-wheeling with her husband, especially in the fall of the year. More recently she spent time completing word search puzzles, keeping up on the news by reading the daily newspaper, and enjoying visits from her family and the company of her new friends at the nursing home. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was a very special lady who was loved by her family and friends.

Loretta and her family have been grateful for the loving care and attention she received from all the staff of the Clifton-Fine Nursing Home and St. Lawrence Valley Hospice.

Calling hours for Mrs. Simpson will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 14th at French Family Funeral Home in Star Lake. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Phillip Giardino officiating. Burial will follow at Cranberry Lake Cemetery.

Those desiring may send contributions in Loretta’s memory to the Clifton-Fine Nursing Home.
