Margaret A. Hassig, age 85 formerly of Lisbon passed away Friday, Feb 20, 2015 at the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Ogdensburg. Burial will take place in the spring on the Hassig Family Cemetery in Lisbon.

Surviving are her children Donald and David Hassig of Colton NY, Steven Hassig and his wife Lisa of Binghamton NY; two brothers Robert Garbesi ( Jean)of Lexington KY and Curtis Garbesi ( Erika) of Santa Monica CA; a sister Mary Garbesi of Santa Monica CA; five grandchildren, Kelsey, Stephen, Morgan and Matthew Hassig of Binghamton and Joel Hassig of Gouverneur along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Margaret was born on February 10, 1930 in Adena OH, a daughter of the late Eugene & Virginia (Maude) Garbesi. She graduated from Adena High School and continued her education at Kent State University in OH. She later married William J. Hassig in 1954 and worked as a secretary. In 1959 the couple relocated to the North Country living in Ogdensburg and later Lisbon where they purchased and operated a farm for many years.

Margaret enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, baking, gardening, visiting OH, cooking and taking care of her family. She was a former 4-H leader, Cub Scout Den Mother and taught piano lessons for many years. She will be greatly missed. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
