Lorna M. Ewart, 70, Ogdensburg

Funeral services for Lorna M. Ewart, age 70, of 1020 Congress Street, Ogdensburg will be held at Notre Dame Church at 1:30 PM on Monday, September 16, 2013 with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Interment will be at Foxwood Memorial Park. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2013 from 6 - 8 PM at Frary Funeral Home on 515 Caroline Street. Mrs. Ewart passed away on Friday, September 13, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family under the care of Hospice.

Mrs. Ewart is survived by her husband, Raymond; three children; two sons, Lawrence and his wife, Sandra and Randy Ewart all of Ogdensburg and a daughter, Kathy Ewart of Lisbon; two brothers, Doug Kirker and his wife, Thelma of Prescott, Ontario and Dwane Kirker of Iroquois, Ontario; a half brother, Dave Mannington and his wife Goldie of Calgary, Alberta; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five nephews and two nieces. Lorna was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy and one nephew.

Mrs. Ewart was born on November 12, 1942 in Brinston, Ontario the daughter of Lorne Kirker and Dorothy Dunn Beach. She was the stepdaughter of Dennis Beach. She attended and graduated from the Ontario School For the Deaf in Belleville, Ontario, in June of 1963. She married Raymond L. Ewart on July 10, 1965 at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg, NY. Lorna worked at Woods Bag & Canvas as seamstress for about eight years and also worked at Aimtronics as an assembler in Ogdensburg until her retirement in November of 2002.

Mrs. Ewart was a member of the North Country Club of the Deaf and was a past secretary. She was also affiliated with Notre Dame Church.

Lorna was an outstanding athlete and was chosen to represent Canada in the first Deaf Olympics in Helsinki, Finland in 1961 on the track team.
