A celebration of life will be held for Linda Marie Stevens, 47, of Canton on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Memorial Home in Waddington with Pastor Rick Sinclair officiating. Calling hours for family and friends will be held Thursday June 3rd from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment with full military honors will be in New Brookside Cemetery, Waddington. Immediately following the burial in Waddington the family asks for your attendance at the American Legion, 23 Fenton Street Waddington for a special luncheon. Linda passed away on Sunday May 30, 2010 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, under the loving care of family, Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley after a severe stroke.
Linda is survived by her mother, Mary (Stevens) Phalon of Canton; a sister, Carol Newvine and husband Rob of Canton; a brother, Scott Stevens and companion Leslie Dishaw of Brasher; nephews Sanford and Dustin Newvine; nieces Emma Rose and Lily Anne Stevens; an aunt, Nita Saxbury; two uncles, Roger and Edward Stevens; and several cousins.
She was predeceased by her father, William F. Stevens November, 21,2001.
Linda was born November 18,1962 the daughter of William F. and Mary ( Corey) Stevens in Corning. Linda served in the US Air Force during Desert Storm Operations where she was a Staff Sergeant Security Police Specialist. She also had been a Special Agent for Immigrations in Washington, DC, and a Criminal Investigator for the Naval Academy in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Linda held a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice and a Cum Laude Graduate of Utica College of Syracuse 1990. She later attended SUNY Canton where she would have earned her RN degree this May.
Linda loved having a close relationship with Jesus Christ through both time of worship and pray. She also enjoyed visiting nursing homes, giving her time to those in need, raking, gardening and hot fudge sundaes.
At the family's request, a scholarship has been established in Linda’s name to benefit non-traditional SUNY Canton nursing students.
