Funeral Service for Leora M. (Durant) White, age 87, formerly of Lisbon, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 8, at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Deacon Mark LaLonde officiating. Her place of rest will be at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Nov 7th, from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral Home.
Leora peacefully passed away November 5th, 2017 at home surrounded by her loved ones.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra (Joseph) DeFranco; grandchildren Elizabeth Brown of Massena, NY, Laura Graf of NC, Ruby Douglas (Michael Hess) of Sandy Pond, NY, Tony DeFranco of Cortland, NY, Daniel DeFranco (Hoa DeFranco) of CA, Ronald White Jr. (Janette Allen) of Philadelphia, NY, Christina Hyde of Ogdensburg, NY, Jeffrey Putnam (Nicole Putnam) of Parishville, NY, Francis White (Theresa Ludlow) of Morristown, NY, 18 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, her sisters Beverly Michaud (Tony Alnasian) of Massena, NY and Lytle Clough of Binghamton, NY and many nieces and nephews. Leora was predeceased by her husband Francis White, her son Ronald White Sr., and siblings Thelma, Kermit, Carl, Phyllis,and Verna.
Leora was born to F.P. Durant and Frances Russell in Bombay, NY on August 17th, 1930. She attended Madrid School and later stayed home to help on her father's farm.
Leora then married Francis White on November 29th, 1947 and was blessed with two children Sandra (Joseph DeFranco) and Ronald White (Joan Graham). Leora and Francis were known for owning and operating the Evansmills Racetrack but most importantly known for their junkyard, White’s Scrap Iron and Metal on Route 68 Lisbon, NY. That was her life! She would be right out there working alongside her husband and son every day.
Leora loved camping, racing, crossword puzzles, gardening, feeding anyone who walked through her door, and spending time with her great-great-grandchildren every day the last year of her life.
