A celebration of life for Lawrence (Pete) M. Deschamps, age 81, will be held a later date. Pete was formerly of 207 Main Street, Ogdensburg. Mr. Deschamps passed away Thursday afternoon (December 20, 2012) at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home. Funeral service arrangements are being handled by Frary Funeral Home.
Among his survivors are a son, Michael and his wife, Christine, of Elmira, NY; two granddaughters, Jill Planty of San Antonio, TX and Jennifer Thorne of Graham, Washington and a sister-in-law and great friend, Alice Dishaw. He is also survived by three special friends; Tudy Smithers, Connie Scott and John O’Connor. John was a great help and supporter of the family. Pete was predeceased by his wife, Helen and his daughter, Patricia Lawson.
Mr. Deschamps was born on October 27, 1931, in Ogdensburg, the son of Ralph and Helen Dishaw. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean War. Pete was married to Helen Deschamps for 55 years. He retired from New York Telephone where he was a splicer for 43 years.
Pete enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as spending time on his beloved St. Lawrence River, where he was a guide for many years. He was also a very devoted husband and father. He was involved in many youth organizations for many years.
Donations may be made in his memory to the St. Joseph’s Foundation.
