Lawrence (Pete) M. Deschamps, 81, formerly Ogdensburg passed away Thursday afternoon Dec. 20, at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home. A celebration of his life will be held a later date.
Arrangements are with Frary Funeral Home.
Among his survivors are a son, Michael and his wife Christine of Elmira; two granddaughters, Jill Planty of San Antonio, TX and Jennifer Thorne of Graham, Washington and a sister in law and great friend, Alice Dishaw. He is also survived by three special friends; Tudy Smithers, Connie Scott and John O’Connor. John was a great help and supporter of the family.
He is predeceased by his wife Helen and his daughter Patricia Lawson.
Deschamps was born October 27, 1931, in Ogdensburg, the son of Ralph and Helen Dishaw. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean War. Pete was married to Helen Deschamps for 55 years. Pete retired from New York Telephone where he was a splicer for 43 years.
Pete enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as spending time on his beloved St. Lawrence, where he was a guide for many years. He was also a very devoted husband and father. He was involved in many youth organizations for many years.
Donations may be made in his memory to the St. Joseph’s Foundation.
The family would also like to thank everyone at St. Josephs Home for making Pete’s last few years so enjoyable.
