Lawrence E. Lafave, 90, formerly of Canton, died Feb. 19 at Pine Medical Center in Sandstone, MN.
A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Canton with Rev. Douglas Lucia as celebrant. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the spring.
Larry was born Feb. 24, 1922 in Tupper Lake, the son of Lawrence E. and Laura (Lamay) Lafave. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s. He drove a bread truck and was a police officer with the Canton Village Police for 10 years. He was also a painter for Cotter Painting and worked in the maintenance dept for Canton ATC for 10 years, where he learned the locksmith trade.
On Jan. 15, 1946, he married Theresa Carrow in Tupper Lake. Theresa died in 2005.
Larry is survived by his two sons, Tom Lafave of Texas and Jerry Lafave of Hinkley, MN; one grandchild; three sisters, Barbard Clark, Joanne Cote and Joyce Patsio and four nieces.
