MADRID -- Kenneth J. Moniere, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife at University of Vermont Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday Jan. 7, 2018. Ken was 72 years old. Friends and family are welcome to call the Phillips Memorial Home, Massena on Thursday Jan. 11, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday Jan. 12, 2018 at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Michael J. Jablonski officiating. A spring burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
Kenneth J. Moniere was born to the late Adrien J. and Salome M. (Latendresse) Moniere on July 24, 1945. Ken attended Massena Schools graduating from Holy Family. He was an avid sports who played football for Holy Family while growing up in the Massena area.
He began his career at ALCOA and later attended the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Texas. He was a supervisor while stationed at the U.S. Border Patrol in Glynco, GA for 20 years as he trained new agents as a driving instructor. Later worked in Charleston, South Caroline for five years before being stationed back in the North Country.
He married his wife of 41 years, Nancy Bauwman in St. Simons Island, GA. Ken enjoyed traveling together and spending time with family and friends. A true lover of life and everything it had to offer. A dedicated husband and U. S. Border Patrol Agent for 41 years. Ken was an advocate for his family, a caring father, grandfather, and brother. He enjoyed playing broomball in his youth and coaching Massena High School Football and was an avid racquetball player. He believed in having an active lifestyle and staying healthy. A strong willed individual, truly a caring person that loved helping people in need and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by all that knew him well.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; and their four children, Jill and Jonathan of Marietta, GA, Gerriann Howe of Waynesville, GA, Christopher and Sharon Moniere of Virginia Beach, VA, and Robert Mackerer of Massena; six grandchildren, Kaley and Brady Cox, Amanda Howe, Jonathan and Brittney Mackerer, and David Cobb II; and one great-granddaughter, McKenzie Johnston. Ken is also survived by a sister, Elaine Legault, of Massena; and nieces and nephews.
Ken was predeceased by both his parents; a brother, George Moniere; and a daughter, Valerie Cobb.
