Kathryn Tyler Jackson, 68, Sylvia Lake

Kathryn Tyler Jackson, 68, of Sylvia Lake, and Monroe, Georgia, passed peacefully on January 9, 2013 at 4:35 a.m., at Gwinnett Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia after battling lung cancer.

She was born in Gouverneur to the late Merrill Tyler and Bette Tyler of Gouverneur in 1944. She graduated from Gouverneur High School and attended Buffalo State University.

In 1964 she married James E. Jackson, also of Gouverneur. She worked for Cole and Leader, Attorneys-at-Law.

She flourished as a homemaker and mother, moving across country many times with her family and husband, who was employed by Cives Corporation.

Her interests included a lifetime of 20+ adopted cats and dogs, gardening, reading, painting and needlework.

She enjoyed coming home to Sylvia Lake each spring, where she and Jim were lifelong summer residents.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years Jim, 70; son, Jeffrey, 47; daughter, Tamara, 43; as well as her Maine coon cats, King Arthur and Sir Lancelot.

Son, Jeffrey R. Jackson, of Schwenksville, PA, is group director of oncology biomarkers with Bristol Myers Squib. He and wife Lori Halavik Jackson have twin daughters, Taylor and Lindsey (16).

Daughter, Tamara Jackson Pursley, of Loganville, GA, is operations director for The Civic League for Regional Atlanta and president of the Down Syndrome Association of Atlanta. She and husband, Shawn C. Pursley, have three sons, Connor (9), Jackson (7) and Tyler (3).

Kathryn will be cremated. A memorial service was held Saturday, January 12, 2013 in the Snellville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home, with Rev. Julie Schendel officiating A memorial service and committal of her ashes will be held in Gouverneur in July.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Gouverneur Foundation, Inc., 133 E. Barney Street, Gouverneur, NY 13642. A memorial scholarship has been established in her name.
