Kanatiio “Tiio” Adams, 18, of 20 Friday Drive, Snye, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012.
Kanatiio was born August 19, 1993 in Cornwall the son of Amanda Adams and the late Cory L. White. He attended Salmon River Central School, before entering Salisbury Prep School in Connecticut where was currently a senior.
Kanatiio loved to play hockey and lacrosse. As a young hockey player, he won the Little NHL Title with his Hotshot Teammates and played on the Akwesasne Minor Hockey team that claimed the Eastern ODMHA hockey title. Kanatiio was an outstanding lacrosse athlete playing for the Akwesasne Junior A Indians. Kanatiio was recently selected to U19 Iroquois Nationals Lacrosse Team, Akwesasne Minor Lacrosse team that played in the Ontario summer games . He was awarded the All-Canadian Defender in Lacrosse at the Canadian National u 16 nationals and had won the Dick’s Tournament of Champions with Krunch Lacrosse. Also Tiio was a key member of the Salmon Shamrocks Section 10 championship in lacrosse. Kanatiio had recently been accepted at Cornell University with full financial aid to play lacrosse for the Big Red of Cornell University with his brother. Every person that had the privilege to play sports with Tiio had the opportunity to play with a special young man that always had an impact in their lives.
Kanatiio also enjoyed working out and spending time with his family especially his brothers, and playing Rylan and Dash. Tiio was a budding carpenter that proudly recently built his grandmother’s beautiful dock. One other great hobby of Tiio’s was catching frogs.
Kanatiio will be sadly missed by his mother and father, Amanda and Thomas Smart of Snye; brothers, Ratsienhahiens ,Myan , Rylan and Dash; his grandparents, Sally Ann Adams of Snye, Carl and Carol White of St. Regis and Donald and Debbie Smart of Uba, California; and his godparents, Christopher and Shari Adams.
He will also be missed by his aunts and uncles, Michelle and Michael Laffin of Snye, Joseph Adams and companion Teresa Sharrow of Snye, Paul and Renee Adams of Cornwall Island, Christopher and Shari Adams of Snye, Mike and Rhonda Adams of Cornwall Island, John Adams and his companion, Reanne Rourke of Snye, Daylan Adams of Snye, Shannon Lazore of Snye, and Kevin Smart and his companion, Amy McDonald; his adopted aunt and uncle, Dwight and Becky Bero of Akwesasne; and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Cory L. White on October 15, 2002 and his maternal grandfather, Morris Adams on October 27, 2008.
Friends may call at the Akwesasne Homemakers beginning at 7:00 p.m. Thursday until 9:30 a.m., Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday 11:00 a.m. at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Jerome Pastores, celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, St. Regis, Quebec.
