Funeral services for Joyce A. Swartsfigure, 72, of Mayfield Apartments,

Formerly of Rensselaer Falls, will be held on Wednesday, May 9th at 11:00 a.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton with Pastor Rob Muldunn officiating. Burial will be in Rennselaer Falls Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the funeral home. Joyce died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, May 5, 2012.

Joyce will be remembered by her children and their spouses, Christine (Lloyd) Richardson of Heuvelton, Colleen (Scott) Kirby of Watsontown, PA, Charleen (Adrian) Bates of Canton and Ralph Henderson of Rochester; six grandchildren, Austin Gotham of Ogdensburg, Taylor Kirby of Liverpool, Kylena Kirby of Watsontown, PA, Lara and Macy Richardson of Heuvelton and Rachel Bates of Canton; a brother and sister-in-law, Everett and Joan Swartsfigure of Ocala, FL; and four nieces and two nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Leo; and her step-mother, Fran.

She was born November 15, 1939 in Ogdensburg, a daughter of the late Ernest C. and Blanche (Boileau) Swartsfigure, she graduated Canton High School, attended MaterDei College as an adult and later received her Nursing Degree from J.C.C.

Upon graduating high school Joyce married Stanley George Planty and later married for a second time. Both marriages ended in divorce.

Joyce worked in the health care for a number of years starting at Dr. Inness Brown as a medical receptionist, Dillingham, Jones & Ciscel, United Helpers Nursing Home as a nurses aid, Claxton Hepburn Medical Center as an RN, EJ Noble Hospital as an RN, for Caregivers as a private duty nurse and most recently for the Dept. of Social Services as a volunteer driver.

She was a member of Eastern Star, the Red Hats and Solo Singles. She also enjoyed her family and grandchildren, knitting, watching ice skating, travel and classical music.
