Joseph “Rodie” Castle, 73, Brasher Falls

Mr. Joseph “Rodie” Castle, 73, of 91 Hurley Road, Brasher Falls, unexpectedly passed away early Thursday morning, March 28, at his home and camp where he so dearly loved spending time.

Rodie was born February 23, 1940 in Massena, the son of the late Viola Castle and Ross Shorette. He attended Holy Family School. On July 2, 1977, he married Beatrice Rafter LaBrake at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Massena.

At one time, Rodie worked on the railroad and cutting wood for various people before becoming disabled due to ill health. He was also a great musician playing the lead guitar for many local bands. He enjoyed bird hunting and spending time at his camp.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; his children, Susan Slywaka of Connecticut; David and Rose LaBrake of Odgensburg; Roger LaBrake of Massachusetts; Tammy and Robert Larock of Gouverneur; Betty Lou Powers of Rochester; Lester LaBrake of Massena; and Wanda and Bruce Green of Zephyrhills, Florida. He is also survived by many grand and great grandchildren; his brother, Gerald and Bonnie Castle of Massena; nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Dusty.

He was predeceased by his son, Michael LaBrake in November 1984 and his daughter, Debbie McGee in April 2000.

Friends may call Saturday at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. There will be no funeral services. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, North Lawrence at the convenience of the family.
