Mr. Joseph D. Chontosh, 82, 183 State Highway 37C, peacefully passed away early Tuesday morning, December 11, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born May 28, 1930 in Massena, the son of the late Joseph and Helen Tuckmeyer Chontosh. He attended Massena schools. On October 27, 1951, he married Lucille C. Dore at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Joseph Heslin, officiating. She predeceased him on June 1, 2003.
Joe was an operating engineer with Local 832, Massena, working at various locations throughout the area. He was a member of the Gerald R. Roy AMVETS Post #4. Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodcarving, and spending time at his camp on Lake St. Francis.
Joe is survived by his children, Rick and Robin Chontosh of Churchville, Gail and Mike Ashley of Massena, Joe and Julie A. Chontosh of Massena, Kim and Tim Lawrence of Pulaski and Tim and Julie L. Chontosh of Massena; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Jean Layton and Rosemary Stewart; nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Michael Barry.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Michael Steven Chontosh; and two sisters, Helen Brothers and Margaret Kovacs.
