POTSDAM -- Mrs. Joan C. LaPoint, age 80, passed away on December 24 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, December 29 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Potsdam with Rev. Stephen Rocker celebrant. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Home in Potsdam on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.

Joan was born on October 14, 1937, daughter of Maurice and Olive Brunet. She was a graduate of Potsdam Central High School. On June 23, 1956 she married her high school sweetheart, Ronald LaPoint.
Joan retired from Potsdam State. She continued to work as a school crossing guard and at our local Walmart where she saw old friends and made new ones daily. She was always willing to lend an ear to anyone and had a smile that lit up her face. Joan loved sports and never missed her grandchildren’s sporting or academic events. She was very proud of her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Joan is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ron LaPoint; her daughter, Roxanne and Ron Kilgore; grandchildren Ron and Denianne Kilgore, Courtney Kilgore, and Garrett Kilgore; two great grandchildren; and sisters Betty Smalley of Tupper Lake and Pat Perkins.
She is predecessed by her parents and brothers Richard Brunet and Wayne Brunet.
