Mrs. Jean E. Roscoe, 85, 417 North Racquette River Road peacefully passed away at her home on Saturday afternoon, November 24, 2012 with her loving daughter and family by her side.

Jean was born November 1, 1927 in Massena, the daughter of the late Clifford and Josephine Williams Jackson. She graduated from Massena High School in 1945 and later took nursing training in Massena. On July 14, 1945, Jean married William E. Roscoe, Jr. at the First United Methodist Church, Massena, with Rev. Leslie Potter, officiating. Mr. Roscoe predeceased her on May 10, 2006.

Jean worked at the Highland Nursing Home for 10 years and also worked at Sears for a short time. Jean was a member of the Rebekah Lodge #348 and Cretona Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #516, both of Massena, where she held many offices. She was also a member of the Grandmother’s Club and the Red Hat Society. In addition, she was a former member of the Women of the Moose and the Massena Rescue Squad Auxiliary. Jean and her late husband helped form the Massena Square Dance Club and she was active with the 4H Club and the Girl Scouts and Brownies for many years. Jean enjoyed crafting, flowers, sewing, knitting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and Bill enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in their home in Zephyrhills, Florida.

She is survived by her son, Rev. Hal Roscoe of Rochester; her daughter, Kathy and Michael Nezezon of Brasher Falls; her eight grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Bigwarfe of Melbourne, Florida and Barbara Ritter of Spencerport; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Connie Brodeur on April 20, 2011; her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Roscoe on July 28, 2012; two sisters, Eileen King in February 1992 and Marie Stalker in March 2004; and an infant brother, Robert Dale Jackson.

Friends may call Tuesday (today) 4-7 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:00 a.m. with her son, Rev. Hal Roscoe, officiating. The members of the Eastern Star will meet Tuesday 6:30 p.m. for a memorial ritual. Burial will follow the services in Fairview Cemetery, Dickinson Center.
