MASSENA -- Janet M. Watkins, 82, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at her home.
Janet was born on April 29, 1935 in Parishville, daughter of the late Floyd and Helen Moses Conger. She graduated from Madrid-Waddington School, and on May 26, 1962 she married Roy O. Watkins at the Massena Methodist Church. Roy predeceased her on January 7, 2017.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she had served as Treasurer, Deacon’s wife, and cared for many children in the church nursery. Janet was a homemaker who took great pride in her home and raising her family, having previously worked at Nekoosa Edwards Paper Mill where she first met Roy.
Janet loved to read, and enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, watching birds and playing solitaire. In her youth, she played the French horn and she excelled as head majorette in the marching band. She also was an avid garage sale hunter. She loved her time with family and friends, but especially treasured her 54 years with Roy.
She is survived by her children, Dean and Lisa Watkins of Massena, Valerie and Dan Murphy of Mahopac, Penny Watkins of Pittsburgh, PA, Jeffrey Watkins of Massena and Rusty Watkins of Perth Amboy, NJ; her two grandchildren, Joshua Watkins and Kathryn Murphy; two sisters, Elizabeth and Robert Binder of California and Virginia Harvey of Tennessee; and her brother, Daniel and Linda Conger of Washington.
Besides her husband Roy, Janet was predeceased by three siblings, Carol Jacobs, David Conger, and Dayton “Larry” Conger.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home Thursday 7-9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church Friday at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Colin Lucid officiating. Burial will be held in the spring at Massena Center Cemetery.
