James R. Welsh, 55, of County Route 43, passed away on Feb. 12, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family with the support of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley. Friends and family may call on Sunday Feb. 16, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Phillips Memorial Home with Rev. Jack Downs presiding. Interment will be held in the spring in Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
James was born on Oct. 4, 1958 in Cornwall, Ontario the son of Hubert and Dorothy (Patraw) Welsh. He proudly served in the U. S. Army and was honorably discharged. Following his discharge he went to work at McLeans Nursery for 15 years. He later was employed at Frenchie's Chevrolet as a detailer for 19 years.
He is survived by his siblings, Kathy (Mike) Pollack of Massena, Richard (Cindy) of Massena, David of Buffalo, Nancy Seguin of Massena, and Bonnie (Perry) Hayden of Massena; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
James was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Julie Rowe; and a nephew, Jeremy Welsh.
James enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was an avid Buffalo Sabres and St. Louis Rams football fan. He also enjoyed tending to his garden.
James will be fondly remembered and missed by his close friends.
