James R. Peck, 89, DeKalb

James R. Peck, 89, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013 at his home. There will be no calling hours, and a funeral service will be held Thursday, March 14th at 10:30 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Howard Maxson, pastor of Fowler Baptist Church officiating and private burial in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.

James was born October 26, 1923 in Fowler, the son of Russell and Belle Marsales Peck. James attended school in Hailesboro and Gouverneur. On October 20, 1947, he married Sarah Grace Gilbert at the parsonage of the Gouverneur United Methodist Church with Rev. Harold Thomas officiating. Sarah passed away December 28, 2011.

The couple lived in Fowler until 1967 when they moved to the River Road near Richville. James worked as a farmer most of his life and worked for the Town of Fowler in the highway department. He also trucked cattle for local farmers many years. James enjoyed spending time with his family and working hard on the farm.

James is survived by two sons, Roger and Janet Peck of Virginia Beach, VA and Gilbert and Claire Peck of DeKalb; two daughters, Elizabeth and Charles Holland of Watertown, and Elaine and Dennis Matthews of Hermon; and 11 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
